Meet Smart Solutions

We believe students can make an impact through the power of their ideas and talents. Smart Solutions is a nonprofit organization that connects students with some of the most pressing problems in the developing world. Through our conferences, design competitions, and incubator program, we provide students with the opportunities, tools, and advisors they need to solve these problems.

Educate
We educate by exposing students to best-practice solutions for the developing world and the experts that are driving them forward.

Build
We build by pairing up students to solve real problems faced by grassroots organizations in the developing world.

Programs

Talk Change

The Talk Change Conferences feature experts who are solving important problems in the developing world. Speakers share with students their experiences, challenges, and the path they followed to implement their solutions. We host 3 annual student conferences: Talk Change Business, Talk Change Health, and Talk Change Technology.

Build-A-Change

The Build-A-Change Competition is where students team up to solve real problems in the developing world. With help from industry mentors, students develop creative solutions and pitch them to a live audience and a panel of judges. Past competitions have featured problem statements, judges, and mentors from Amnesty International, the Aga Khan Development Network, and SEVA Canada.

SmartLabs

SmartLabs builds web & mobile technology solutions for grassroots organizations that lack the technical expertise and funds to build them on their own. We bring together computer science, design, and business students to build these technology solutions over a 3-month period.

Current project: An Android app used by clinics in rural Thailand to track patient records. Partner organizations: Access TeleMed & Warm Heart Worldwide
